About Us
W.S.F
Originaly
named Wales streetdance Association was set up in 2002 by 5 ex members
of THE UNDERDOGS youth group, their aim was to stage dance events in
the country of Wales, that were easily accessible for all.
After
a lot of research they discovered that almost all dance competitions
held in the UK were VERY EXPENSIVE, they wanted to be able to charge
the lowest amount so they could to fill the event with youngsters who
had never had the chance before.
The first competition was done on a wing and prayer, I sat on the computor for weeks finding dance schools and youth clubs, writng letters to local companies for support and putting together a set of rules and entry forms, then I sat and folded 300 entry forms and rules put them into envolopes, added stamps, posted them and waited.
The deadline for the forms was January 2003, but by the middle of February I had not heard a thing so I decided to cancel, but the very next day the enquiries came flooding in and the envolopes dropped on the mat, all of them hoping they could enter despite missing the deadline,
At the very first Wales Streetdance championships there were 270 dancers, with under 10's, pre juniors, juniors and senior sections full.
we are now in our 7th year and I am proud to say it is a success, we used to stay at Trecco Bay holiday park, Porthcawl (who were fantastic to us), every dancer who took part went home with a small plaque to remember the weekend and most importantly they get to dance!!!!!!!!!.
Over the years the profile of W.S.F has grown to such a level we are now host the country of Wales qualifier, for the I.D.O World champs, held in various locations around europe.
In 2005 The Project qualified to enter the I.D.O World hip hop dance
championships held in Bremmen Germany, the team of just 14 were the
first UK team to enter, in 2008 they knew the Welsh had arrived with a
full squad of 120 dancers and 150 supporters... 2 members of the Wales
squad gained 3rd place in the Electric Boogie pairs and the UK and
Ireland represented thier countries fantasticaly.
